Charles Dowding CD30 Propagation Tray
Versatile, Space-Saving Efficiency for the Sustainable Gardener.
The CD30 Propagation Tray is a professional-grade module developed in collaboration with No-Dig specialist Charles Dowding. Manufactured in the UK, this tray is designed to offer the same high-performance specifications as the renowned CD60, but in a more compact 30-cell format. It is the perfect solution for gardeners who wish to raise smaller quantities of various plants while maintaining the highest standards of root health and sustainability.
Expertly Designed for Diverse Crops
Drawing on over 40 years of commercial growing experience at his market garden, Homeacres, Charles Dowding designed this tray to be his ideal seed-raising tool. The CD30 is suitable for a vast array of crops, from delicate herbs like basil and spinach to more robust seedlings such as sweetcorn and broad beans. By starting seedlings in these controlled modules, gardeners can significantly increase germination rates and extend their growing season.
Rigid, Long-Life Construction
The CD30 is injection-moulded from tough, UV-stabilised recyclable polypropylene, providing a rigid and dimensionally stable structure. Unlike flimsy, single-use trays that often end up in landfill after a single season, this tray is built to last. While a recent addition to the range, it is crafted from the same premium material proven to have a lifespan of over 15 years in professional environments.
Key Features and Benefits
Optimised for Small Spaces: The 30-cell configuration allows for efficient use of space on windowsills or crowded greenhouse shelves.
Superior Root Development: When paired with the Charles Dowding/Huw Richards Base Tray, the design encourages air pruning. This prevents roots from spiralling and ensures the formation of a dense, fibrous root ball for successful transplanting.
Easy Plug Removal: Each cell features a generous 14mm drainage hole, which not only prevents waterlogging but also allows for the efficient ejection of the seedling using a finger or a Dib Popper.
Sustainable Lifecycle: At the end of its long service life, the tray can be recycled with hard plastics at most household waste recycling centres.
